1315 – AGM

On Tuesday, the 17th May 2016, the members of the CGAO came together in Toronto for our AGM. This is the one time of year where the focus is on what has been achieved and the strategy of where we are going.

Building on our theme of generating greater awareness on the Regulatory Environment, there was an excellent presentation by our Policy Advisor, Mr. Don Bourgeois, of understanding the
Registrar’s Standards for Gaming and how it impacts Commercial Operators in their day-to-day
business actions.

A key function of an AGM is to elect Directors to serve on the Board. We had four (4) Directors
up for re-election and through the actions of the members, they were re-elected to serve another two (2) year term.

Re-elected Directors:

  • Mr. Cam Johnstone - Delta Gaming Group
  • Mr. Tony Rosa - Community Gaming & Entertainment
  • Mr. Paul Nitsopoulos - Dolphin Gaming Centre
  • Mr. Jim McLean - Arrow Games (Canada)

1316 – New Chair Appointed

The first order of business of an elected or re-elected Board is the appointment of Officers. For the first time in many years the Board recognized the need to re-fresh the approach to the Board. Thus, a new Chair has been elected - Mr. Tony Rosa. The previous Chair, Mr. Michael Orser, was appointed as Director-Finance and thus remains an Officer of the Association.

1317 – Mr. Michael Orser

After stepping down as Chair of the Board for the past 10yrs, Mr. Tony Rosa wanted to acknowledge the tremendous contribution that Michael has made in overseeing the development of the CGAO during his term.

It must be borne in mind that when Michael was elected for this position, the organization was very much in its early stages and only had four (4) members but through a clear path from those founding members, the CGAO slowly started to gain traction within the sector. The foundation piece was the platform of relationships and how we would engage with other stakeholders, Michael set a course for the executive to operate going forward.

I therefore wanted to publicly thank Michael for his leadership in the role of Chair and I am delighted that he remains a member of the Board.

1318 – Canadian Gaming Conference

A final reminder that the Canadian Gaming Conference kicks off in Ottawa (Ontario) on Monday, the 13th June 2016. I would encourage as many Commercial Operators and Managers as possible to join us in Ottawa.

Remember, if you are attending, sign up for the ‘Charitable Gaming’ section of the conference.

1319 – G2E - Las Vegas (USA)

G2E is also on the calendar, coming up the last week of September 2016. This is an excellent opportunity to see what is happening globally. The exhibition floor is a tremendous podium to see trends on product platforms.

1320 – Delta Gaming Group - Web Site

As part of the ongoing rollout of the new corporate Brand Strategy, the Delta Gaming Group completed another piece of this process. The group launched its new web platform. The site can be defined in two key words, Aspirational & Informational, and it gives a clear and crisp impression of the entertainment experience that they are presenting to their communities and consumers.

I want to congratulate the CEO, Mr. Cam Johnstone, and his Executive Team for continuing the ongoing transition & development of his company brand. Well done Team Delta!

1321 – Delta Gaming Group - Fort Erie

On Wednesday, the 1st June 2016, Delta Gaming Centre in Fort Erie celebrated the milestone of $C1.3 million being raised for local community not-for-profit Organizations. Receiving the cheque on behalf of the community of Fort Erie was the Mayor of the town. The event was supported by the Charities aligned to the Centre, OLG, OCGA, Management & Staff and the customers. This is a tremendous achievement for the Centre and is another prime example of the real benefits the c-Gaming platforms bring to numerous communities throughout the province.

1322 – Mr. Richard Hueston

Earlier in the spring 2016, Mr. Richard Hueston retired from the industry.

His most recent position as Government Affairs – Director for Specialty Print had capped off a long career, both in Government and Commercial Sector.

With a legal background on many issues, Rich brought through unique foresights that balanced the issues for the sector. Rich also sat on many industry committees and in the later part of his career he had a keen focus on the Breakopen Ticket sector.

Over the years, I have sat with Rich on those industry committees and saw him first hand working to enhance the sector and balance the interest of those he represented.

On behalf of everyone at the CGAO, we wish Rich a very long and happy retirement.
