1454 – Discovery Conference - Responsible Gaming - Council

This week the Responsible Gaming – Council will host their successful RG-Conference in Toronto. This conference has become a firm fixture within the RG Global Conference circuit and receives international representation among the delegates.

Once again, the CGAO will have a presence at the conference that continues our commitment, both to the Responsible Gaming – Council and Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Play-Smart) to foster a greater understanding of the role it currently plays and strategies for future engagement.

The CGAO will be reporting back to its members next week on the conference to keep them fully updated.

1455 – Golf Day - 2018

The CGAO’s Annual Golf Day will take place on the 7th June 2018 (which is election day in Ontario) at the Springfield Golf & Country Club. This is always a very positive day for us and strengthens our networking and co-operation for those engaged in the Charitable Gaming Sector.

If you would like to joins us for golf, please contact our golf co-ordinator, Ms. Brenda Bennett, at bbennett@cgeg.ca who will forward any additional details.

Important Note: With it being election day (Ontario) we are encouraging all golfers to vote early or arrange postal voting prior to the event.

1456 – Canadian Gaming Association - Appoints CEO

It was announced in early March ’18 that the Canadian Gaming Association (CGA) has appointed as Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paul Burns. Prior to his appointment Paul held the Page 2 of 3 position of Vice President with the organization since it was created some years ago, thus bringing a rich knowledge of the organization to his new role.

We wish Paul every success in his new role, which he undertakes at a very challenging time for the gambling sector across the country.

1457 – Lotto-Quebec - eBingo Pilots

Progress continues to be made on the eBingo pilot that will launch mid-summer 2018. Under the leadership of Mr. Francois-Patrick Allard at Lotto-Quebec, the bingo sector looks to ensure it prepares the five (5) selected bingo centres for their conversion(s) to eBingo.

We [CGAO]have maintained an open and positive relationship with Francois-Patrick Allard and through this relationship are able to share information and approaches. His style of leadership is very engaging and looks to maintain strong bonds with his stakeholders, combined with the focus on the entertainment experience for the consumer. It will be interesting to see how this will be received when launched in late summer.

It has been mentioned that the pilot period from measurement will be the calendar year 2019. Along with the operational pieces, the pilot will carry an RG element that is designed to fit the environment and potential risk of the sector. This will be part of the pilot measurement criteria.

  • Gala Bingo (Retail) - It has been announced on the 9th March 2018, Gala Leisure Limited (the largest operator of bingo clubs in the UK) will end its relationship with the Gala Brand that is owned by Ladbrokes-Coral PLC.
