1439 – Minimum Wage - 2018

Just a reminder that the new Ontario Minimum Wage kicked in on 1st January 2018 with the immediate increase to $C14.00 per hour and a further increase scheduled for the 1st January 2019.

There are broader changes to the Ontario Labour Law than just a minimum wage increase. We have enclosed a direct link below for your reference. It is important that Human Resources/Payroll departments are aware of these changes.

1440 – New Horizons (RG) Conference

The New Horizons (RG) Conference will be taking place in Vancouver, British Columbia in mid-February. This has, over the years, become a fixture in the Canadian RG Conference calendar.

For the first time the CGAO will have a representative at the conference. It is a reflection of the Chair’s & Boards commitment to continuing the broader understanding of RG issues and trends within the Industry.

1441 – Community Presentation

The next community presentation is scheduled for Friday, the 26th January 2018 at Dolphin Gaming Centre, (Scarborough) Toronto.

This Centre has, over the last two years, made a tremendous contribution by local Charities to numerous community projects they are engaged in. This is a Centre that has been seeking additional Charities to join the Association and participate in the program and I know the OCGA is working closely with the City of Toronto. This is a positive indicator for the program.

1442 – PlaySmart (cGaming)

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Tony Rosa (CEO) Community Gaming & Entertainment (Windsor) and his operational team, who have agreed and are in the process of undertaking a pilot project with the OLG – Play-Smart Team.

The Pilot Project is the creation of an Ambassador Program with c-Gaming environment. This is based on a program that has been deployed in the Casinos and Racinos in recent years. We now have the challenge of taking the core elements of that program and connecting this within our operational environments.

As this develops we will keep you updated on the progress. It is another example of how the sector continues to embrace the Play-Smart initiative into our culture.

Thank you Tony and the Community Gaming Team.

1443 – Delta Gaming Group

The Delta Gaming Group launched out of 2017 into 2018 with a massive ‘customer event’, which was held in their St. Clair Gaming Centre. This was the final event that marked the 50th Anniversary of the Delta Corporation. It was good to see the CEO – Mr. Cam Johnstone in attendance with other senior Directors, all interacting with the customers and strengthening that personal connectivity.

The Centre [St. Clair] hosted the final of the Golden Ticket promotion event with the majority of the Centres having customer representation there. I was delighted to receive an invitation from the Delta Group to be in attendance, which I duly accepted. The atmosphere was electric and there was a lot of excitement and enjoyment in the air. I wanted to publicly acknowledge the hard work of Mr. Shawn Fisher and his operational team and Ms. Isabel McMurrich and her Marketing Team. Combined, both these individuals delivered a highly successful event and certainly enhanced the Delta brand among its customers.

I have enclosed a recent new release that was issued by the Group and explains the event in more detail.
